Our new masterplan
Our new application proposes to deliver up to 99 new homes, and has been designed to positively reflect the local character of Hurst and the setting of the site.
Our new application proposes to deliver up to 99 new homes, and has been designed to positively reflect the local character of Hurst and the setting of the site.
Our new proposal significantly reduces the development area on the site, enabling 62% of the site to be retained and enhanced as publicly accessible open space. At the centre, a new common will be created, which will be open and accessible to the whole community. The common will maintain important views and a sense of openness across the site to/from Lodge Road and Tape Lane and will include new play and recreational facilities.
We will deliver an 11% biodiversity net gain on site, with all existing trees and the majority of existing hedgerows to be preserved - alongside additional planting, greening, and landscaping to improve the overall quality of the site. In recognition of the need for improved walking, cycling and public transport infrastructure to deliver a truly sustainable development, we are proposing to deliver a series of transport improvements to provide safe and enjoyable connections, and encourage active travel across Hurst and the wider area. We are committing to deliver a new 2km cycle connection between Hurst and Twyford Railway Station, which was identified as an important route in the Wokingham Local Cycling and Walking Improvement Plan (LCWIP). The proposals will also include significant improvements to the existing cycle and bus infrastructure at the Railway Station. We are also proposing to fund a new half-hourly bus service between Hurst and Twyford, stopping at Twyford Station, town centre and Piggott CoE Primary School, and a new bus stop in Hurst. The new bus service will set down at a new bus stop located within the development.
We will also provide an on-site Mobility Hub, which could include cycle parking, a bike repair station, a bus stop with Real Time Passenger Information, and a Car Club (including one capable of supporting an electric vehicle) will be delivered to encourage alternative and active travel.
